TRI-ing is a good portion of the battle

June 29, 2014

Wow ... It is something how quickly time flies when you're having fun. :-D

While I was undergoing chemo, it seemed that the seconds of each day dragged.  Speaking of my treatment, June 25 marked the one year anniversary of my bilateral mastectomy. My God! I am in awe of how far God has brought me.   Honestly, there were some days when all I could do is call on the name of "Jesus" because I was lacking mental and physical fortitude to do anything additionally.   I missed the opportunity to write about how grateful I was to wake on June 25, 2014 and look back at the road I've traveled.  The blessing is that I never traveled alone. God put the right people in my life at the right time & I was always supported.  My heart wrenches to hear that anyone battling cancer (or any disease) has to do it alone.  In my opinion, support and prayer are key in the healing process.  I am beyond thankful for friends and family who made loving me a priority when they did not have to do so.

I went through 2 surgeries on 6/25/13 ~ a few hours in emergency room days later because of an allergic reaction (covered in hives) ~ developed this thing called 'cording' after surgery ~ all the things that come with chemo.... that's the short version.   All that said, 6/25 was a blessed day!  I even had a tennis match with my partner, Phenette & won!   (Now tennis is a sport with which I have a tremendous amount of comfort, unlike swimming and biking with clips lol).

Since I've last written:

  • 2 open water swim practices

  • 1 bike ride on the road after open water swim practice

  • Another fall on the bike

  • 2 mile trot/jog without stopping

This last full month before the tri I need to focus on mini BRICKs and building endurance, especially in open water and the bike.    I get nervous even thinking about the race.  Yes, it's 34 days away & I'm nervous.  Geez Louise!

Whatever the outcome, I know that I have TRI'd & to me that's what matters a great deal.

Hugs & Love, CC
