YOUR HIDDEN SUPERPOWERS

"Somewhere inside all of us is the power to change the world." - Roald Dahl

If I told you how many times in my childhood I said the phrase, "WonderTwin Powers -  Activate!" you'd probably laugh.

Ok - either laugh or nod your head and say 'me too!'

Mine was the generation of superheroes, magic powers, He-Man and She-Ra's and the never ending possibility that inside each one of us was a secret superpower waiting to be discovered. All we needed to do was to put on some Underoos and say the magic words!

Then life happened.

And somewhere along the road of development we started believing that we were the same as everyone else. No special powers. No leaping over buildings in a single bound. No eating rainbows and pooping butterflies. (Not sure who's superpower that was, but it sounded good. wink.)

But what if I told you that you had hidden superpowers inside you?

It's true. You do.

You just might have forgotten how truly amazing you are.

REDISCOVER YOUR POWER

As a 2x metastatic cancer survivor, I could tell you a few things about opposition. We go way back.  It's been a part of my life since the day I was born and no matter how many times I tell it to go away, it keeps on showing up - usually at the most inconvenient times.

How rude.

Good 'ol Merriam-Webster has this to say about opposition:

It's defined as an 'action that is done to stop or defeat someone or something'.

Looks like the bad guy in our life story just got a new name: Opposition.

Sounds fierce doesn't it. (You may have to hold out the 'o' when you say it for dramatic effect. OOOOOOppOOOOsition. Yep. Fierce.)

But have no fear, help is here.

When you're facing this nasty villain, here's 3 simple letters to remember:

R. E. P.

And to ingrain them in your mind, add music from the 90's - You down with REP (Yeah you know me). Every superhero has a theme song, you know. Yet, I digress.

SUPER POWER #1: RESILIENCY

Just like Superman, you were born pre-programmed with gifts from the realm you came from. Gifts that would help you overcome the opposition in the world. A Divine Nature, if you will, formed in the heavens above and instilled in your very soul.

Don't believe me?

Think about when you first learned to walk. You probably fell down a bunch of times when you were first learning how to master that 'first step'.

Why didn't you just stay down - even when there wasn't someone there to praise you for getting up?

One word: Resiliency.

The super power to 'recover quickly from difficulties'.

You were born with it and it's still inside you.  All you have to do is access it by taking action and making the conscious choice to 'bounce back quickly'.

Note I said 'quickly', not 'instantly'.

Just like young Bruce Wayne learned before becoming Batman:

"Why do we fall, sir?

So that we can learn to pick ourselves up."

It's the action of falling that gives us the opportunity to stand back up. We may be down for a while, but getting up quickly is what builds character and gives us strength to get up again.

Your 'resiliency power' may be a bit rusty if you haven't used it in a while, but the best part of these superpowers is that they can be reignited - just like cranking up an old generator.

The power magnifies with action.

SUPER POWER #2: ENTHUSIASM

It's a bird. It's a plane...

When you were little, it really didn't matter what it was - as long as it was shiny, moved and you could eat it - or attempt to anyway.

You were born with enthusiasm or the super power to have 'intense and eager enjoyment, interest or approval'.

Don't you love that?  Eager enjoyment and interest.

Eager, as in: yearning, aching, wishing, hoping and a whole slew of synonyms.

Have you ever watched a young child as they discovered something new? It's as if a light turns on inside their soul and radiant enjoyment and laughter pours from their shining faces.

I feel that is why people are drawn to babies and toddlers. Seeing children enjoy the fullness of their Enthusiasm sparks our own internal super power and we start to feel the desire for that intense enjoyment in our lives once again.

If you feel that your life is somewhat dull and that the light has gone from your eyes, it's time to rediscover your enthusiasm superpower by discovering something new or re-engaging in something you love but haven't done in a while.

Take that gardening class. Book the trip overseas. Volunteer to read to children. Polka to your hearts content. Whatever it takes.

The power magnifies with action.

SUPER POWER #3 - PERSISTENCE

Do you remember who taught you to keep asking your parents over and over and over and over and over and over and over for whatever it was you wanted?

The toy, the candy, the pony.

I don't ever remember getting a formal lesson in repeating myself a billion times till I got what I wanted, yet somehow, most of us mastered that technique as a child.

It's called persistence and it's a superpower that many of us as adults have forgotten.

It's the power to stand 'firm in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition'.

(Ahh, my old enemy - OOOOOppOOOOsition. We meet again.)

'Quit. Give up. Your beaten,' is the typical response in todays world when things don't go as planned.

'You'll never make it, so why try?'

But every superhero knows that persistence is the secret sauce in the pizza of power to magnify our dreams and achieve our destiny.  It's the Secret Ninja Turtle way after all, and talking turtles can never be wrong.

Persistence is moving forward, taking the risk and staying firm in your belief of success no matter how many times the world tells you it won't happen.

And as always, the power magnifies with action.

PUT YOUR CAPE ON

The next time you start to feel opposition creep into your life, remember to take action and use your hidden superpowers of resiliency, enthusiasm and persistence.

Not only will they bring greater abilities into your life, but as you stand on 'sacred ground' you will feel the power of the eternities fuel your soul with the ability to overcome.

Your Divine Nature is powerful and it's also contagious (in a good way).

As you start to remember who you are, others will be reminded of their power - they can't help it because it's in them too - and the power to do good will increase in the world.

The world can always use more superheroes.

Suit up.

xo,

Ginger

I met Ginger during the 2014 Amoena Ambassador photo shoot. We had an opportunity to get to know each other over a spa date - several days of photo shoots. It's really something how quickly you bond with a stranger when your connection is cancer (breast or any other cancer).  Ginger continues to inspire, encourage, and help many through the non-profit she founded: HAPPY CHEMO where the mission is to ease the fear, frustration and financial burden associated with cancer by connecting survivors and caregivers to products, services and resources provided by qualified local and national partners, and the vision is to provide hope, help and happiness to every cancer patient and caregiver in America...

Please visit: www.happychemo.org to learn more about the great things Ginger is doing.

Because I am convinced that I meet NO ONE by mistake, I am incredibly happy to know her.  My continued thoughts and prayers are with her and her family as she continues to be the SUPERHERO that conquers and thrives.   Thanks for contributing your words and raw emtion to PinkyTri.   Hugs and love to you, Ginger!
