This year, I had the opportunity to attend the 2017 Essence Festival representing Ford's Warriors in Pink Program.
It was an incredibly exciting opportunity. The weekend is made up of seminars, which tend to be highly energetic and informative, across a 2-3 day period. It also includes fantastic concerts in the evening. It's intended to be a weekend honoring black women while providing every opportunity possible to be empowered by their personal obstacles, triumphs, and victories. It's intended to be a weekend celebrating the far reaching successes of black women.
Ford is a proud sponsor of the event. Each major sponsor has a stage with its own schedule of activities and speakers. Niya Matthews (a fellow Model of Courage) and I shared the Ford stage to provide information about Ford's Warriors in Pink program.
Ford Motor Company has been in the fight against breast cancer for 21 years. From raising funds through our Warriors in Pink apparel, to raising awareness through unique media content, to giving breast cancer patients and survivors more good days – we are always looking for ways to help people go further.
Ford understands that there are two very important elements in the fight against breast cancer – driving awareness that leads to proactive self-care and raising funds to support research and education. So Warriors in Pink apparel was created to help do both. The apparel that weaves the Symbols of the Warrior into each original design helps keep breast health top of mind. And, as always, 100 percent of the net proceeds support breast cancer charities. We have chosen four diverse charities – so you can decide where your donation goes. It’s your choice at checkout!
