The DRAGONS came for a worthy cause

We participated in the 3rd annual Acworth Dragon Boat Festival. I captain and recruit team members for one of my favorite non-profits -- Loving Arms Cancer Outreach.

What’s a dragon boat race? Imagine colorful 40 foot long boats with the head and tail of a dragon on each end, filled with 20 paddlers, a drummer, and steersperson competing in a high energy race on the water. This athletic and cultural phenomenon originated over 2,000 years ago in Ancient China, and is presently the fastest growing sport in the world. Proceeds from the Acworth Dragon Boat Race & Festival will benefit Loving Arms Cancer Outreach and Dragon Boat Atlanta, a Breast Cancer Dragon Boat Team. Loving Arms, founded by two oncology nurses, provides Support Groups, Education, and Financial Assistance for cancer patients in seven northwestern metro counties. In its 14th year in the Atlanta area, Dragon Boat Atlanta is a team dedicated to promoting breast cancer awareness, while providing survivors with the rehabilitation, camaraderie, and recreational exercise of dragon boat paddling. Both Loving Arms and Dragon Boat Atlanta are 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.

We did it!

We won 1st place in the cancer survivor division!!

Shout out to the rookies who paddled for the 1st year amazingly well & to the veterans for sharing your tips! My Georgia 2 day fam made up over 50% of our team. So, thanks for recognizing this worthy cause & supporting it as well.

Most importantly, our team raised $3,150 for two local outreach non-profit organizations: Loving Arms Cancer Outreach and Dragon Boat Atlanta♥️🎀❣

Thanks, team for a day full of laughter, victories, and camraderie (in spite of the rain)❣ Way to get 'er done!

Thanks Shamichael, Linda, Janet and all the wonderful volunteers for making this a successful event!
